Edward Scissorhands - The Relationships

What do you think of the relationship between Edward and Kim?

Did it remind you of this classic romance, which the song describes as a, 'tale as old as time'?

Tell me what you like most about the ice dance scene:
I look forward to reading your comments.

Kind regards,  Ms Hanlon

Edward Scissorhands

Last week we watched Edward Scissorhands in class, which continued our analysis of gothic genre.  The clip above is a copy of the trailer of the film.  What do you think? Is it a good summary of the film? Would it have enticed you to the movies?

In this scene, we see suburbia presented as banal and yet comfortable, stifling and yet safe.  How does this suburb resemble your own?

Some of the most interesting events in the movie arise due to Edward's innocence and naivety.  Take, for example, his relationship with the lonely, but predatory, Mrs Monroe, which is highlighted in this scene:

BILL: "So Edward, did you have a productive day?"

EDWARD: "Mrs Monroe showed me where the salon's going to be. You could have a cosmetics counter."

PEG: "Wouldn't that be great?"

BILL:"Great."

EDWARD, (innocently): "And then she showed me the back room where she took all of her clothes off."

(Kym and Peg are shocked, Kevin giggles)

BILL: "Edward, I can't tell you how thrilled I am. I'm just as pleased as punch. This whole beauty parlour
venture is going to teach you volumes. There's nothing like running your own business. I've never done
it myself, but from what I gather, it's the best satisfaction a working man can have."
